In view of radical confrontation of last three months, during last week of November more than 900 Indonesian troopers were additionally concentrated in West Papua, many civil activists and protest leaders were arrested anticipating West Papua Independence Day Dec 1.
Every year in this day many actions and ceremonies by Papuan people and by the Free Papua Movement usually organized. So, Indonesian governmental bodies were prepared for this usual threat. During the night before Dec 1 2019 dozens of activists were interrogated in Sentani, Jayapura, Paniai, Nabire, Mapia; 34 persons were reportedly arrested. Despite police and military measures, lots of celebrating actions both civil and military (from the side of insurgents groups) were organized in West Papua today.
