One of leader of armed insurgent’s groups was arrested in West Papua

One of the leaders of the West Papua armed separatist group, Iris Murib, was arrested while searching for weapons for the group’s anniversar” event. Papua Police Chief Inspector General Paulus Waterpauw said, Iris Murib was arrested on Thursday Nov 21, 2019 in Kali Mindah, Trans Timika-Nabire Road, Iwaka District.

Iris Murib is one of the leaders of terroristic wing of Free Papua Movement. His figure is hard and sadistic official profile said; Iris Murib and his group classified as cruel in carrying out the action. According the reports, Iris Murib has a hard character and acts as an executor.

In particular, in 2014, a group led by Iris Murib shot two police personnel in Ilaga, Puncak District, Papua. The attack caused Aipda Tomson Siahaan and Bripda Ari Aprianto to die. Then, in 2015, Iris Murib had carried out an attack on the Sinak Police Station. The attack again caused casualties. The group led by Iris Murib left three police officers dead, and one injured. In addition, Iris Murib also seized eight firearms and ammunition.

According to police report, during the arrest Iris Murib was forced to be shot, so as not to fight and run away. Iris Murib was arrested while preparing for the action before the anniversary of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) on 1 December 2019. According to Paulus, Iris Murib was arrested while looking for ammunition related to the December 1, 2019 action plan. In addition, Iris Murib is known to join other groups that are heading to Tembagapura, both from Intan Jaya, Sugapa, and others.
